Thought For The Day – Monday 17th November 2025
Silent Support Weekend
In football, this last weekend saw the first “Silent Support Weekend”.
This was: “A national initiative to help young players find their voice on the pitch, make their own decisions and enjoy their game, with no distracting noise from spectators on the sidelines”.
During “Silent Support Weekend”, only applause from spectators for good play , and quiet encouragement from coaches, was welcome.
After this last weekend, the next “Silent Support Weekend” will be on the 14th and 15th of March 2026.
“Silent Support Weekend” is being supported by the football commentator, journalist and writer Clive Tyldesley, who visited T.B.S.H.S. once again in 2023, then speaking to Year 9 and to the Sixth Form.
Of “Silent Support Weekend”, Clive Tyldesley says: ‘It’s an initiative to promote true support and encouragement. Stop moaning, start cheering.”
