Thought For The Day – Friday 7th November 2025
Remembrance Sunday
Sunday 9th November 2025 is Remembrance Sunday.
As is traditional, there will be a two-minute silence on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. to remember and to respect.
There will be important community events, which local students will be taking part in, including here in Bishop’s Stortford.
King Charles III will lead this Act and Service of Remembrance from The Cenotaph in Westminster, London.
The Cenotaph, from the Greek meaning “empty tomb”, is the United Kingdom’s national war memorial.
The final Cenotaph was unveiled in 1920, as a memorial to those who passed away from this life in the First World War.
In particular, in 2025, the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War will be remembered, whilst remembering all involved in conflicts before and since, and praying for peace in the world.
In the first twenty minutes of the “BBC One” broadcast of Remembrance Sunday last year, Remembrance Sunday 2024 , : a D-Day veteran, who was 100 years old at the time of the broadcast, talks of his traumatic experience; whilst the family of Captain Mark Hale, who sacrificed his life for others in Afghanistan, share their very moving story.
As Brenda Hale, married to Mark, says on the programme:
“Remembrance is a huge way to say “thank you”, when the words “thank you” will never, ever be enough.”
