The Governors
The Governors of the Bishop’s Stortford High School are responsible for setting and maintaining the ethos and strategic direction of the School.
In so doing, we act as critical friends of the school. We support and challenge our senior leaders in equal measure, to ensure we fulfil our mutual, core aim of providing every student the best possible opportunity to thrive in all aspects of their educational development, in a safe and caring environment.
We are not educational experts but draw on our own broad variety of career skills and life experiences to add fresh, objective perspective to the professional expertise of our school leaders. Governors reflect the parent body and the broader community, and are responsible for taking student, staff, parent and community voices into consideration when working with school leaders.
We fulfil our role through a formalised committee structure, consisting of specialist sub-committees and link Governors who report to the Full Governing Body. Governors aim to get involved in various aspects of school life, including fundraising via the Mitre Committee, and promoting the school within the wider Bishop’s Stortford community. Supporting our school is a pleasure; we are hugely grateful for the dedication, talent and commitment of an extraordinary staff, both teaching and non-teaching, which drives TBSHS from strength to strength, and contributes to our unique culture.
Additionally, Governors recognise the benefit we derive from so many of our parents supporting TBSHS in different ways. In particular, we value the amazing fundraising efforts of the PTFA and PSA. They contribute to a full school calendar of events, whilst raising money to help fund our huge and ever-growing number of student enrichment opportunities. This effort, alongside time volunteered by our staff, enables the provision of an extra-curricular programme for our students which is second to none.
As current Governors of TBSHS, we would like to acknowledge the great contribution made to school life by our many predecessors, especially our past Chairs: Rodney Stock, Dame Betty Paterson, Stanley Price, Jim Tee, Joanna Mckee, Rosemary Jones and Dan McCarthy. Our most recent former Chair, Alan Fordham, deserves our special thanks for his invaluable contribution, over the course of many years, to moving us to our fantastic new Beaumont Avenue premises.
More details of our Governing body and how it works can be found below. Please feel free to contact Governors via the school office. Thank you for directing your time and interest to TBSHS.
