Thought For The Day – Wednesday 16th July 2025
Caritas and Charity
The Latin word for, and derivation, of the word “charity” is “caritas”, meaning love and compassion.
This itself stems from the Latin “carus,” meaning “dear”, “loved” and “precious”.
In all the opportunities, challenges and, sometimes, distractions of life, we do not forget health, kindness and love, both of, and to, others, and ourselves, always comes first.
An inspirational event took place yesterday, and will continue today, as a number of students of the School take part in heart screening and testing.
Thank you so much to our visitors and to all who work in health and medicine, and associated charities, generally.
The heart screening yesterday and today has only happened due the generosity and selflessness beyond words of the Oliver Family, in memory of their son Max, a former student of T.B.S.H.S. Max passed away from this life in September last year.
We do not have the words to describe former student of T.B.S.H.S. Teddy Oliver, brother of Max, and the Oliver Family, who have led and driven this project. They were very impressed by our new school facilities yesterday.
We do not have the words to describe Max. The outpouring of goodness, love and respect for Max upon Max’s passing from this life said everything about his unique legacy of love.
May Max continue to guide and inspire from Heaven.
Though in the last year we have, of course, moved site, the Ethos of T.B.S.H.S., transcends time, space and generation. It is there is the most challenging and difficult of times. This is, of course, its true test and value.
And we should not forget that the only reason we are here today is because of previous generations.
Tomorrow, Thursday, once again, we have an opportunity to think of, and do something for, others locally, nationally and internationally before the Summer.
Tomorrow is Non-Uniform Day.
Please ensure you bring: your £2; your locker key; your school equipment. Learning continues.
Monies will be collected in form time tomorrow. As always, if payment is genuinely challenging for you, and your family, at this time, please speak to your form tutor.
Please ensure your non-uniform is appropriate for school and the workplace.
Tomorrow, and every day, respect for all students (and their non-uniform tomorrow), respect for all staff, respect for all the school facilities (always remember the cleaners work nearly 5 hours each evening) and respect for the wider community to, and from, T.B.S.H.S. is absolutely vital.
We are blessed to have this day.
We are blessed to have every and any day we have.
We show “caritas” every day.
Please ensure you continue to play your positive part and show your caring, compassionate, inspirational and thoughtful leadership.
It is the very least we can, and should, do to help any suffering.
We live out the true meaning of “caritas”, with humility.
