Thought For The Day – Tuesday 3rd March 2026
Gardeners of the Globe
The second picture above is from the “World Wildlife Fund”.
Our most essential, and precious, resource is all around us,
Today is “World Wildlife Day”.
This recognises the special and unique contributions of wildlife to the people and the planet.
But, as the “World Wildlife Fund”, report, global wildlife populations have declined, on average, by 73% since 1970.
The theme of W.W.D. this year is: “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods”.
This theme draws attention to plants, which the António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, calls “the planet’s unsung architects”.
António Guterres continues: “Across the Earth, flora underpin economies, support human health, and sustain almost every other form of life.”
In particular, the theme draws attention to the importance of plants to medicine, biodiversity, ecology, and communities, both now and historically.
And, hopefully, in years to come.
We are interconnected. With each other. With nature. With the environment. With past, present, and future.
For life is holistic and intricate.
Indeed, the environment and the natural world is important for our mental and physical health and wellbeing. A walk in, and connection with, nature enriches and enlightens the soul.
“Consider the lilies of the field.” (Jesus, Matthew 6).
All faiths, and religions, share a respect for the sacred environment.
On W.W.D., António Guterres encourages all to become “gardeners of the global commons” , thinking of, sustaining, and being stewards of, biodiversity, and life, for generations to come.
Thank you to “The Green Team”, and all environmental and scientific areas, departments, and volunteers in this vital area, for their stewardship, witness, and work at the still new T.B.S.H.S., thinking global and acting local.
