Thought For The Day – Monday 24th November 2025
White Ribbon Day
Tomorrow, the 25th of November, is “White Ribbon Day”.
“White Ribbon Day” calls for the elimination of violence against women and girls.
This is an international day of action, and awareness. It was started by men in Canada in November 1991.
“White Ribbon Day” inspires individuals, and organisations, to take positive action to challenge harmful cultures, and behaviours, that lead to violence against women and girls.
“White Ribbon Day” also marks the start of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”, which runs until “ World Human Rights Day” on 10 December.
“White Ribbon Day” implores us to stand up against sexism and misogyny in word and deed, every aspect, at every level, and in every place and space. Misogyny is the hatred of, aversion to, bias against, contempt for, and negative prejudice and negative discrimination to women and/or girls.
As “White Ribbon U.K.” states: “Letting sexism slide puts women and girls at risk.”
Being a positively pro-active ally, listening to life experiences and stories, particularly those of women and girls, and being an upstander for good and justice are key and vital aspects.
On “White Ribbon Day”, a particular emphasis is placed on what men and boys can, and should, do and showing solidarity.
What kind of a world do we want for our mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts, grandmothers, and grandchildren?
“White Ribbon Day” massively helps men and boys too. Because a sexist and misogynistic society also harms, and is toxic to, men and boys through stereotyping, negative prejudice, and negative discrimination. So long as people are legal, respectful, and safe, there is not one way to be a man or a boy.
What kind of world do we wish for our fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, grandfathers, and grandchildren?
A sexist and misogynistic society harms, and disrespects all, particularly women and girls.
The theme for “White Ribbon Day 2025” is: “We Speak Up”.
This very important, and empowering, theme encourages men and boys to use their voices and speak up and create a world where everyone is safe, equal, and respected.
Sexism, misogyny, exploitation, objectification, and stereotyping are evil and wrong.
Sexism, misogyny, exploitation, objectification, and stereotyping must be appropriately called out, challenged, and confronted wherever and whenever heard and seen.
All relationships must be appropriate, legal, consensual, thoughtful, and respectful.
In sexual relationships, the legal Age of Consent is sixteen and above for both people.
All on-line actions must also be appropriate, legal, respectful, and safe.
In our lives, we empower, and are inspired by, women and girls as total equals and leaders, amplifying women’s and girls’ voices and life experiences.
We strive to be caring, compassionate, empathetic, kind, sensitive, and thoughtful role models, valuing equality and respect of all for all.
