Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities.
TBSHS offers the opportunity for students to gain the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze and Gold Awards.
The Award is achieved by completing a personal program of activities in four sections:
· Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community
· Physical: improving in an area of sport or fitness activities
· Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests
· Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey.
· At Gold level, you must do an additional Residential section, which involves working and staying away from home doing a shared activity
The time spent on each activity is dependent on the Award undertaken.

Enrolment occurs for Bronze in the first half term of Year 9, and for Gold at the start of Year 12. Letters are distributed, via email and on the Parental Bulletin when Bronze is launched each year – please see these letters for instructions. Gold enrolment is through the choice of DofE as a Curriculum Enhancement option.
While enrolment needs parental permission and consent is required for trips, students should try to take as much responsibility for their own DofE as possible, for instance by: communicating with Leaders and Assessors themselves; keeping their own records of participation in their Sections; and importantly packing their own rucksacks for the trips!
