Thought For The Day – Tuesday 30th September 2025
Charity
The word “charity” is derived from the Latin word “caritas”, meaning “love”.
This Latin word was itself a translation of the Greek word “agape”.
“Agape”, the highest form of love, refers to the selfless love of, and care for, others.
“Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank”, our local food bank, was a charity established in 2013. The late Norma Symonds was an instrumental person in the food bank’s founding.
In recent times, with the rising economic cost of living, our local food bank, which provides everyday essentials generally, like other food banks across the country, has been very much in demand.
Charity is not just about giving money.
Often, raising awareness and giving time can be even more valuable.
We are greatly inspired by all who give their time to “Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank” and all charities.
Interact are currently collecting once again for “Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank”.
It is important to help people in need internationally, nationally, and locally.
It is important to be caring and compassionate.
It is important to treat others as we ourselves wish to be treated.
It is important to spread love.
If you can afford to do so, please bring any allergy-free and safe items from the list below to Room C05 by Friday 3rd October.
Thank you to Interact, the school charity group, who faithfully meet with, and greatly inspire, Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club every Wednesday lunchtime, for their continued dedication and devotion to doing good for others.
