The Core Habits of Responsible Learners
The Bishop’s Stortford High School remains steadfast in our commitment to providing a truly all-round education, both in terms of academic achievement and the development of our students’ values.
A big part of this is our desire at TBSHS to develop effective responsible learning habits as a means of increasing students’ independent thinking and ownership of their learning. Subsequently, we have defined what it means to be a responsible learner at TBSHS and it has been a main area of focus in developing teaching and learning since 2018. We expect students to understand, embrace and demonstrate The Core Habits of Responsible Learning at TBSHS which are as follows:
- Be proactive
- Be resilient
- Regularly review work
- Listen carefully and respectfully to others
- Collaborate to everyone’s mutual benefit (collective responsibility for learning)
The House Point system reflects The Core Habits of Responsible Learning, thereby acknowledging and recognising students’ development as a responsible learner explicitly. Our House Points will be awarded to our students for the following:
- Asking challenging questions
- Responding to Feedback
- Reviewing work
- Justification and Reasoning
- Building on others’ responses
- Collaborating to everyone’s mutual benefit
- Black and Gold Spirit (Upholding and enacting the values of TBSHS)
Students will be given House Points for work, performance and attitude based on their commitment to The Core Habits of Responsible Learning and upholding the values of the school (Black and Gold spirit).
