Course Information

Assessment Outline

The theory aspect of the course will be examined via three written examinations:

Physiological factors affecting performance (01) – 90 marks (30% of total A level). Applied anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics.

Psychological factors affecting performance (02) – 60 marks (20% of total A level). Skill acquisition and sports psychology.

Social-cultural issues in physical activity and sport (03) – 60 marks (20% of total A level). Sport and society and the contemporary issues in physical activity and sport.

You will also be expected to complete a practical component which is worth 30% of the overall grade and comprises of a practical performance in one chosen sport and a verbal response which requires an evaluation and analysis of performance.

Assessment Objectives

The exams will measure how students have achieved the following assessment objectives.

AO1 - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin performance and involvement in physical activity and sport.

AO2 - Apply knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin performance and involvement in physical activity and sport.

AO3 - Analyse and evaluate the factors that underpin performance and involvement in physical activity and sport.

AO4 - Demonstrate and apply relevant skills and techniques in physical activity and sport and analyse and evaluate performance.
