At the end of the 2 year course, you will sit 3 two hour papers.

Throughout the course, there will be tests to check your progress and ensure that you are on track. There will be a test during the first week or so (following up the Bridging Unit), a test near to half term, a test in January and then a test at the end of the first year.

Reason, interpret and communicate mathematically (25%)

Solve problems within mathematics and in other contexts (25%)

Specific information about content can be found in the syllabus linked here.

Key Skills in this task

Basic algebraic manipulation, forming and solving equations, factorising quadratics.

Bridging Task

Task Outline

You are expected to complete the worksheet with full solutions and mark your work using the given answers. This is to ensure that you have the required algebra skills to hit the ground running with the new content. Otherwise, you will be playing catch-up and find your start to the course very challenging.

You will see videos and weblinks for you to use IF you are unsure how to answer a question.

If you use a resource to help you answer a question, first of all, well done, secondly, please make a note of this next to your worked solution. Remember we want to develop you as an independent learner and we see the use of worked examples as a positive in your learning.

The task is available here: http://www.tbshs.org/sixthform.aspx?SubCatID=303&PageID=685

Marking Criteria / Assessment Method

We will be expecting to see your full written solutions during the first week back. If you achieve less than 75% you will be expected to attend some Clinics to improve your skills prior to the first test. This test will happen during the first few weeks and will cover similar content to the bridging work. All Sixth Form mathematicians sit the test.
