Ski Trip 2018

Destination: Eben, Austria

Dates: Friday 09/02/18 – Saturday 17/02/18

Approximate cost: £950

Dear Parent/Carer,

During the February half-term holiday of 2018 I am planning to take a group of current year 7 and 8 students on a ski trip to the resort of Eben in the Sportwelt Amade ski region of Austria - http://www.eben.at/winterholiday-ski-amade-austria.html It is an extensive ski area (350 km) with modern lift facilities up to an altitude of 2200 metres - http://www.skiamade.com/en/winter We will use Eben as a base to ski in several resorts such as Altenmarkt and Flachau.

The proposed accommodation is the Youth hotel Lindenhof - http://www.youngaustria.com/en/adventure-guesthouses/details/hotel/Jugendhotel-Lindenhof/

The Lindenhof is only a few hundred metres from the nearest ski slopes and lift at Eben. The comfortable accommodation is of a high standard and rooms are 4 to 6 bedded. All have a shower and toilet. Other facilities include three dining rooms, a large sports hall, games room, TV room, table tennis, table football and pool tables.

The mode of travel will be coach. We will depart from school on Friday afternoon (09/02/18) and return on the following Saturday afternoon (17/02/18). Accurate timings have yet to be arranged.

The approximate price of the ski trip is £950. This includes:

  • Comprehensive winter sports insurance cover
  • Coach travel to and from the resort and use of the coach in the resort
  • Six day lift pass
  • Six days hire of carving skis, poles, boots and helmet
  • Six days tuition with six fully qualified instructors for five hours per day
  • Six nights full board hotel accommodation (including packed lunches)
  • 5 Euros towards breakfast on the homeward journey
  • A range of evening activities
  • STI Skiwise representative
  • Snow guarantee

The cost does not include:

  • Spending money (we usually recommend no more than 100 Euros)
  • Dry ski slope lessons for beginners (approximately £25)
  • Hire or purchase of any ski clothing for the trip

As with many other sports, skiing does involve a certain degree of risk of injury. Students will only ski under the supervision of qualified instructors and will at all other times be reasonably supervised by the accompanying staff to a level that would be expected of a prudent parent.

The staffing of the trip is on a ratio of 1 to 7 and the ski party leader is Mr J.P. Griffiths.

In order to secure a place, I require a non-refundable deposit of £80 by Monday 26th September 2016. If the ski trip is over-subscribed students will be chosen at random. The Headteacher, in liaison with the ski party leader, reserves the right to withdraw a student from the trip if their behaviour in school means that they would be a danger to themselves or others on the ski trip.

The reply slip and deposit payment is to be taken to Mrs Kitching, Trips and Visits Coordinator. Please write your son’s name and “Ski Trip 2018” on the reverse side of the cheque. A payment schedule (usually spread over 10 months) will be sent to you once a place on the trip has been confirmed. If your son is not on the initial ski trip list (limit of 50 students) he will be placed on a reserve list and the cheque will be returned to you.

If you require any further information then please contact me at the school. My email address is jonathan.griffiths@tbshs.org

Yours sincerely

Mr J.P. Griffiths
Ski Party Leader
