We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational Deputy Headteacher to join our highly successful school at a very exciting time as we plan to relocate to a nearby site and build a new, state of the art school. The main responsibility of the post holder will be the oversight of the highly effective pastoral system, though other responsibilities will also be allocated based on experience and expertise of the appointed candidate.

We were graded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in March 2017.

Educating 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a thriving co-educational sixth form of 350+ students, including 100+ girls. Last year our students achieved a Progress 8 score of +0.56 at GCSE, compared to a national average for boys of -0.25. At A-Level, 55% of all grades were achieved at A*-B, producing a positive ALIS residual yet again. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.

Our ethos is built on the core values found on our website www.tbshs.org and is focussed on getting the most out of every student throughout their time here. Our thorough approach to behaviour management and welfare means teachers can focus on teaching and students are able to concentrate on learning.

Our aim is to provide students with a truly all-round education, which includes not only academic success, but also great opportunities to develop the skills, qualities and character that will benefit them for life. Great attention is given to student welfare, development and leadership and staff work incredibly hard to provide a fantastic enrichment programme which is unrivalled by most state schools. We have excellent student engagement in an impressive range of extra-curricular activities, which includes first-class fixture cards in all major sports, a diverse and high quality music and drama programme, DofE, Model United Nations, debating, public speaking and much more.

The Headmaster has been in post since January 2014 and is supported, in the Senior Leadership Team, by two Deputy Heads, four Assistant Heads and the Director of Finance. This vacancy follows the announcement of the intended retirement of one of the existing deputies. Leadership development is highly valued and there are many opportunities to work with professionals beyond TBSHS. We play a significant role in the Bishop’s Stortford Educational Trust, a federation of local schools, driving leadership programmes and a subject leader network.

This post would suit any candidate who matches the person specification, is looking to build on their existing experience of leadership and has aspirations of future headship. Applicants must be enthusiastic, committed and forward thinking and be an excellent teacher and role model to staff and students alike. The appointed candidate can expect to gain significant enjoyment and professional fulfilment from working here.

An application form and further details are immediately available from the Headteacher’s P.A. Mrs D. Landers at the school or downloadable from the website. You are strongly encouraged to view the short video of the school click here.

TBSHS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of all our children and expects staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure Barring Service check is required for all successful applicants.
