Head of Music

MPS/UPS + London Fringe Allowance  (TLR 1a £7699)

Required for September 2018

Educating 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large, thriving co-educational sixth form, with over one hundred girls on roll. Last year our students achieved 84% 5 A*-C (Inc. English & Maths) at GCSE and 55% A*-B at A-Level. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.

We were graded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in March 2017.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Music, with a passion for promoting the subject both inside and outside of the curriculum, to lead an established and flourishing department.  Music takes a prominent position within the school, with excellent participation and high standards of student performance in the frequent concerts and events.

We have an annual music festival, at which we are fortunate to attract some excellent visiting professionals as adjudicators; a variety of concerts throughout the year; a bi-annual school musical and an annual music performance tour which recently visited Belgium.  This is an active, busy department with an excellent local reputation.

The school has a vast range of enrichment activities which include many international trips, cultural visits, first class fixture cards in all major sports, a diverse and high quality music and drama programme, DofE, public speaking, charity work and much more besides.

Caretaker

Job Share – 2 days per week

From £8.40 per hour + holiday pay including Fringe, dependent on experience and qualifications.

 

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and energetic caretaker to join our caretaking team.

To provide efficient, effective caretaking support, ensuring the security and appearance of the buildings and site is maintained. Undertake new developments in school that may require skills such as woodwork, plumbing, decorating and maintenance tasks.

The position participates in an early /late shift pattern and additional lettings hours may be available.

The MFL department is home to a lively and mutually supportive team, which offers French and German to A-Level. The successful applicant would ideally teach one of these subjects to A-Level. It is a well-resourced department with a strong emphasis on staff development and the appointed candidate can expect to gain significant enjoyment and professional fulfilment from working here. We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified graduate with the ability to contribute to this committed team. There is a full programme of exchanges and visits with schools in France and Germany. Latin is also currently delivered to GCSE.

We offer an excellent mentoring programme for newly qualified teachers and leadership development opportunities for more experienced colleagues. Student enrichment plays a major part in the life of the school, through a wide-ranging extra-curricular programme, which includes a first class sports fixture card, a diverse and high quality music and drama calendar, D of E, debating, public speaking and much more besides.
