Thought For The Day – January 21st 2021
The Hill We Climb
Amanda Gorman, who is 22 years of age, yesterday become the youngest ever poet to perform at a presidential inauguration.
Born in Los Angeles in 1998, and becoming youth poet for her city aged 16, Ms. Gorman had a speech impediment as a child. Resilience.
Aged 19, whilst studying at Harvard University, she became national youth poet laureate.
Her performance yesterday of her wonderful poem “The Hill We Climb”, completed just last week and deeply motivated by current events in the United States of America, was absolutely brilliant.
The power of poetry. The love of literature. The wisdom and wonder of words.
"I really wanted to use my words to be a point of unity and collaboration and togetherness" she said.
Nerveless passion and a moment in the moment by Amanda Gorman. An absolute star.
