Year 8 & Year 9 - Richard Knight (Khaki on Campaign) History Lectures – Mr Dickens

Richard Knight visited the school on Friday 11th January to give two fascinating lectures to Y8 & 9 historians.

To begin with, he spoke to Year 8 historians about the First World War. This is a vivid introduction to the war of 1914-1918, which students will shortly be studying in their History lessons.

After Year 8,  Mr Knight presented to Y9 historians, plus the wider year group; this time about the changing nature of warfare over the C20th. This complements the history students recent study of the Second World War and is insightful and informative general knowlege for the rest of the year group.

In addition to his presentations, Mr Knight bought a wide range of uniforms, artefacts and equipment to fully engage students in these two fascinating topics.

Mr Jesse Dickens, Subject Leader for History said “Richard, an alumni of TBSHS, has visited the School on numerous occasions, and each time he brings a fascinating insight to new generations of boys of the history and conditions of the First World war and the changing nature of conflict over the C20th. His knowledge is first rate and it is clear why he has been consulted for his expertise on a number of documentaries and films including Private Peaceful, War Horse and Journey’s End. The talks enrich the curriculum that the boys will be following in Year 8 and Year 9 and further encourage pupils in their study of history”
