Piano Masterclass, results in Student Scholarship
TBSHS Student offered a piano scholarship with International Pianist

The Music Department at TBSHS held a Masterclass with International Concert Pianist Richard Meyrick this week, which resulted in one pupil being offered a Piano Scholarship.

Talented Owen Lee in Year 9 was ‘Spotted’, by Richard and offered a monthly lesson and consultation, on top of his normal piano lessons.

International concert pianist Richard Meyrick held a Masterclass with students grade 3 standard and above, hearing them play and gave them the benefit of his unique insights and experience to the pupils and an audience of other musically-minded students.

Each participant brought along an item of piano music they wanted to work on, and Richard broadened the thinking of these young musicians. Giving them new perspectives, techniques and goals for the preparation and presentation of their pieces. As part of the Masterclass, Richard himself played one or two works, carefully chosen to inspire and enthral.

Richard held his audience captivated for two hours and at the end all had learned something and were inspired to continue their piano studies.

Mr Mike Cosadinos, Subject Leader for Music commented “We were very grateful to host Richard  Meyrick – a renowned concert pianist - earlier this week, as he led a piano Masterclass, inspiring the next generation of musicians. We had the privilege of hearing him perform, before welcoming six young TBSHS pianists to the stage. The masterclass took place in front of a select audience of piano students.

We were thrilled that one of our pupils - Owen Lee (year 9) – was then offered a Scholarship, to travel into London and receive expert tuition as part of a nation-wide initiative in search of young talent.  It is a wonderful opportunity for him and very rare to be selected. We look forward to watching him develop over the next few years.”
